Newsies

Welcome to WESTMINSTER COMMUNITY THEATER's summer community theatre production of Disney’s Newsies!

Westminster Community Theater is an innovative program joining our amateur actors with a professional creative team as well as professional, working actors to create a production that teaches the realities and high expectations of professional theatre.

Auditions were held in May for students through Melody Musical Theater for Westminster Public Schools students, Melody Musical Theater students, and the community (adults and students).  The rehearsal summer camp, starting in July, brought all the cast and crew together teaching the standards of theater to actors and youth interested in technical theatre, the culmination providing a high quality production for our community.

We can only provide this experience through the immense support of Westminster Public Schools and its Creative Arts Pipeline who provide the facilities and equipment, the North Metro Arts Alliance who, along with the SCFD, provide funds for our contracts, and Melody Musical Theater Group, who, under their auspice of year-round theater, provide organization and direction to the project.

NEWSIES is based on the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, this new Disney musical tells the story of Jack Kelly, a rebellious newsboy who dreams of a life as an artist away from the big city. After publishing giant Joseph Pulitzer raises newspaper prices at the newsboys’ expense, Kelly and his fellow newsies take action. With help from the beautiful female reporter Katherine Plumber, all of New York City soon recognizes the power of “the little man.”
